Cannon SD1200IS ReviewWe love cameras, and we love Cannon cameras the best, so when we get a chance to review them it is always a lot of fun. The Cannon SD1200 IS is no exception. The Cannon PowerShot SD1200 IS is an affordable, compact, lightweight and simple to use point-and-shot camera that is great for slipping into a shirt pocket to take along to a special event or dinner. This camera is easy for the beginner to use, but has enough features for a more experienced amateur photographer to get even better photographs. This handy little camera has great features like the Cannon DIGIC 4 processor and 10.0 megapixel resolution, and is great for any casual photographic opportunity. The zoom feature provides anywhere from 35 to 105mm zoom capabilities. One of the really cool features is the Smart AUTO setting which will choose the camera shot mode based upon a list of 18 predetermined shooting situations. This is great for the person who wants a starter digital camera and wants some great pictures without having to change the settings on the camera for the particular situation they are in. Another neat feature is the Face Detection Self-Timer. In the self-timer mode the camera will continue to pick up faces for the shot until the photographer’s (you) face is added to the photograph. The camera will not fire until the camera detects the extra face. Included is an easy to use Movie Mode for videos you can replay on a computer or on your TV, along with the Intelligent Contrast Correction system which will automatically lighten dark areas in your shot without over-brightening the lighter areas. Smaller than a pack of playing cards this camera can easily slip into your shirt pocket and will feel very similar to a flip cell phone. While image stabilization is built in to the camera it may not correct the “camera shake” problem so many beginning photographers experience, so it is important to learn exactly how to hold the camera for the best results. While packing 10.3 megapixels into the camera the photographer has about 10.0 megapixels to work with using a program like PhotoShop on the computer, which is way more than enough pixels. Remember, too many pixels will cause photos to get grainy and noisy at the pixel level. The Cannon SD1200 IS has fewer megapixels than many other point-and-shoot cameras on the market today, thus providing comparatively clearer photographs than cameras that pack a lot more mexapixels onto a small CCD.
